The DMV never deposited a check sent to pay a vehicle registration last month, and now my tags are expired. I’ve not received anything in the mail to indicate a problem, and a quick google search turned up a phone number: (916) 657-6940
A man answered with, “directors office.” He interrupted my question with, “how did you get this number?” Not sure why he asked, the answer didn’t interest him. He said I needed to call “the 800 number” and hung up.
The 800 number stinks. My speakerphone has been on hold for over 15 minutes and the message just said, “Your current wait time is more than 10 minutes, you may want to call back at later time today, or another day during the week. Thank you for calling the Department of Motor Vehicles.”
For this lesson in patience I will thank the director of the Department of Motor Vehicles, George Valverde, by entering him and his work number in every sweepstakes contest I find in coming weeks.
A friend told me years ago that he’d vote for any candidate for governor who promised to abolish the DMV. Me too.

So now Meg Whitman knows how to get your vote
A little daylight between her and Brown would make it easier to decide.
